THINKING
OF BUYING/LEASING A
POS SYSTEM?
You can BUY OR LEASE a POS
System for your retail store or restaurant
and pay for it through a small portion of
your future Visa/MC sales.
- POS (
Point-Of-Sale BASICS)
Today, the cash register of even the
smallest business may be attached to a
computer via a POS or Point Of Sale
System. The popularity of these systems
v. conventional cash registers is that
they don't just ring up sales, they
amass vital, real time information about
your customers and your inventory.
At the core of these systems are standard
issue computers running specialized POS
software, usually with a cash drawer and
receipt printer and often with a bar code
scanner and credit card reader. These
systems are usually pre-configured and cost
anywhere from $1500 on up.
The biggest advantage of a good POS System:
- The ability to get an up-to-the
minute assessment of your inventory.
Each time you check out a cutover, the
goods you ring up are subtracted from
your inventory and kept on your
computer's hard drive.
- Taking inventory is usually one of the most labor
intensive and time consuming tasks every business owner
faces. It is also the most crucial because having too
much or too little inventory can be costly.
Although having a POS system track your inventory is not
a substitute for a physical inventory count, many
business owners find that they can reduce the number of
times each year they conduct this time-consuming task.

- Can be programmed to alert
you when a given item is at a
reorder point, will give you the
most recent price you paid for
that item, as well as the
average price you paid in the
past, both of which will help
you strike the best deal with
your vendors.
- Allows you to run a report
that gives inventory activity
for the day, week or month. Some
allow you to even track
inventory year-to-year, allowing
you to compare last year's
order/sales with this year's.
Doing so can help you anticipate where you want to head
in the coming months.
- Helps you know who your best
cutovers are and what they like.
With a customer's purchase
history visible at the cash
register, you can alert a
customer if you got a new
shipment of something they like.
A Point-Of-Sale System is more than just where the money
comes in. With the right equipment, it becomes your
strategic service center, the place to grow your
business and keep your customers coming back. AND
according to Intuit market research, an independent
business owner with sales of $300,000 per year can cut
costs close to 10%, saving an average $30,000 per year!
That's a substantial return on a small investment.
- Helps prevent shrinkage.
With paper receipts and an old
fashioned cash register, the
temptation will always be there
to pocket a few dollars or give
friends a few free meals. A POS
system will curb these
activities by providing an
accurate account of where your
merchandise and money are going.
- n looking for a POS System,
the choices are many and the
price can range from $1500 to
$50,000 +, so here are some
guidelines for purchasing:
- It's All About Inventory.
All POS Systems track inventory,
but a good one will let you
assess your inventory easily and
thoroughly. You should be able
to set alerts for items running
low, be able to readily add new
items and back orders, and even
generate purchase orders for
vendors.
- Ease of Use v.
Functionality. The more complex
your orders, the more features
you will need. But consider the
time and cost needed to train
you and your employees on the
system.
- Can the System Grow with
Your Needs? If you are on a
tight budget, you may have to
get a basic POS System, but make
sure that the system you
purchase allows you to upgrade
to it as needed.
Also, make sure that the system you choose doesn't
require someone to set it up for you as that will add
thousands to your costs.
Ready to Purchase A POS System, but Don't Have the Cash
Available, or have less that perfect credit and cannot
qualify for a traditional lease or loan?
If you are a retailer or restaurant owner that accepts a
minimum of $10,000 in Visa/MC sales per month, you are
eligible to buy or lease a POS System of your choice and
pay for it, not by writing out
a check each month, but through a small portion of you
Visa/MC sale each day. To get more information, please
